Medical disclaimer

We want to be completely clear about what FoodFacts CONNECT is — and what it isn't — so you can use it safely.

In an emergency

If you or someone else needs urgent medical help, call 999 now. If you need medical help fast but it is not a 999 emergency, call NHS 111 or visit 111.nhs.uk. Never use CONNECT — including messaging a practitioner — for urgent medical matters.

CONNECT is not a medical service

FoodFacts CONNECT is a booking and discovery platform run by foodfacts.org. The platform itself does not diagnose, treat or advise on any health condition. Nothing on this website — directory listings, articles, emails, search results or anything written by our team — is medical, dietetic or nutritional advice, and it should never be used as a substitute for advice from a qualified professional who knows your circumstances.

Practitioners are independent regulated professionals

The Registered Dietitians and Registered Nutritionists you find on CONNECT are independent professionals, not our employees. They are regulated by their own professional bodies — Registered Dietitians by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and Registered Nutritionists by the Association for Nutrition (AfN/UKVRN). We verify each practitioner's registration before they can be listed, but the advice given in a consultation is the practitioner's professional responsibility, given under their own regulatory standards and insurance.

Nutrition advice is not a medical diagnosis

A consultation with a dietitian or nutritionist can be genuinely life-changing — but it is not the same as seeing a doctor. Nutrition professionals do not diagnose medical conditions. If you have symptoms that worry you, unexplained weight loss, or a suspected medical condition, see your GP first. A good practitioner will tell you the same thing, and will refer you onwards when your needs fall outside their scope.

Do not stop or change prescribed treatment — including medication — based on nutrition advice without speaking to your doctor or the prescriber first.

Eating disorders

Some practitioners on CONNECT specialise in supporting people with eating disorders, always as part of wider care. If you are struggling with your relationship with food, specialist support beyond a nutrition consultation matters — and it is available right now:

Worried about an eating disorder?

You are not alone, and support is available right now. Contact Beat, the UK's eating disorder charity on 0808 801 0677, call NHS 111, or speak to your GP. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999.

Accuracy of information

We work hard to keep the platform accurate — it is, after all, run by a non-profit fighting food misinformation. But general information on this site is provided “as is”, and profiles are written by practitioners themselves. Verify anything that matters to your health with a qualified professional.
